WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE DAY

Introduction and Keynote Talks:

Wiring the Social Economy is a hybrid (un)conference. We'll start the day with an introduction, then three fantastic speakers will make a few opening remarks to frame the day's discussions and introduce us all to some of the ideas, challenges, opportunities, and perspectives from across participating communities.

Sessions - Morning & Afternoon:

Then attendees will have a chance to briefly pitch a topic for a session. These might be about sharing or asking for information, leading or asking for a discussion, or perhaps on a particular project you're thinking about or working on.

Breaks & Transitions:

There will be plenty of transition time between talks, activities, and sessions with time to chat with new friends, stretch your muscles, and fill up your water bottle.

Cinq a Sept:

The cash bar will open just as wrap our afternoon sessions at about 4:30pm. Stay for a drink (or three), continue conversations begun earlier in the day, and wind down after a day of thought-provoking discussions.

========

Wiring the Social Economy is a day for discovery and connection. For tapping into the energy of social entrepreneurs and sharing the wisdom of experienced change agents. For getting out of our silos and our comfort zones. Are you up for it? This event is about wiring in all senses of the word, not just the internet, intranets, or social media, but also the connections that must be made to create real relationships with people who care about causes.

There are two main goals of the conference that support community economic development. The first is to help the social media and technology community understand the challenges, needs and constraints of social change agents along with the issues they face. The second major goal of the day is to help the social enterprise and community economic development communities understand the possibilities and potentials of using technology in their work.

Each of these groups has organizations, events, and conferences to offer support within their communities. The goal of Wiring the Social Economy is to cross-pollinate ideas on challenges, solutions, and best practices between these communities of practice.

Some of the day will be structured with facilitated discussions to provide an overall theme and shared context. We will also have a large unconference portion to the day allowing everyone to participate in the conversation and to create space for social creativity, group innovation, and dialogue. For the participant-driven portion of the day, you can both shape the agenda and contribute to the conversation. When you register please let us know if you have:

  • a skill you want to provide
  • a discussion you want to have
  • a project you want to move forward
  • something you want to learn

We believe that by working together within the principles of equity, diversity, collaboration, participation we collectively have the potential to generate, and accelerate, sustainable community development. To learn more about this project, see Wiring the Social Economy.
